What do you want to be when you grow up? Why? If this career requires college, what college would you like to go to?
Tell me, what do you want to learn about astronomy this year? What interests you the most about this subject? What questions do you have about our solar system or the universe?
We really had an excellent beginning to the school year! Students are working hard and doing a lot of reading once again. Everyone has done a great job getting into the routine of the classroom and showing they want to do awesome in 6th grade. Way to go, Class!!
I apologize; I haven't been able to post the parody videos. As you may be able to see on the homepage, there's been a technical issue. I hope to have this resolved and the videos posted as soon as possible! Thanks for understanding!!
Students will be performing their Julius Caesar song parodies on Monday, and at the very latest, Tuesday. Check out our class website late next week to see the videos. Students & groups in costume will earn extra credit! We have been having so much fun with this!!
Sixth grade students should have brought home information this week on their biography project for reading. Ask your child who they plan to study. Presentations will not be until the second week we come back from break, but students need to have their bios read by Jan. 6, the day they return from Christmas Vacation. Students have been given note taking guides to accompany their bios. Much of the research and presentation writing will be done at school, however, students will be responsible for creating their costume and other visual aides at home. Email me with any questions. [email protected] :)
Students will be bringing home information about their Egypt projects this week. Students will be writing a research paper at school, and be required to complete two projects at home. They will have several projects to choose from. All projects will be due November 8th. Make sure to ask them about these projects over the weekend, and ask to see the handout they will bring home in the next day or two. I can answer any further questions at conferences next week or via email. These projects are meant to be fun and creative way to encourage family involvement. I can't wait to see what these children can do!!:)
In social studies we have become map salesmen and women. Students are working with partners to create an advertisement poster to sell the map they chose, either the Mercator map or the equal-area projection map. Ask your child which map they are advertising and what classifies it as that map. The posters will be on display outside the classroom soon and will also be displayed at the fine arts fair this spring.
Your child should have brought a green laminated card home with a username and password on it to access his/her math portal online. The website is www.connected.mcgraw-hill.com. There you can access many resources including online tutors.
